Joe Wempe is Senior Manager, AI Platforms at Devon Energy, where he leads a team that helps Devon translate data and AI into tangible value across the company. They built and run ChatDVN, Devon's internal AI platform, now in active use by more than 75% of the company. They are also helping the business reimagine workflows with an AI-first mindset.
AI Platforms also includes Devon's Emerging Technology team, which builds relationships across the business to understand the problems on the ground, then scans the technology landscape for new capabilities that could solve them. The team makes the connections, spearheads the pilot, and once the value is proven, hands the technology over to a business team to operate. Past efforts include helping launch Devon's drone program.
Joe joined Devon in 2014 and has held technology leadership roles across Drilling, Facilities, Completions, and EHS technology. Before Devon, he spent two years at Phillips 66, including time as an IT Business Partner for the Phillips 66 Research Center, and nine years at ConocoPhillips in various IT technical and business-facing roles within the upstream and commercial businesses.
Joe holds a bachelor's in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. He is based in Oklahoma City.
